The table features many ingredients set-up, ready to be baked: there is some flour on the corner of the table, as well as a mound of chocolate chips. With so many different types of cookies to choose from – like sugar, oatmeal raisin, snickerdoodles, and the most famous cookie of all, chocolate chip – it can be difficult to choose. Making cookies may be fun, but can get messy. Flour is going to go everywhere, but the end result will be well worth the effort.

Today, you are going to find exactly how to make the world’s best chocolate chip cookies, which come in three varieties: thin and crispy, cakey and light, or soft and chewy.

While today’s tutorial will focus on the soft and chewy variety, you can tweak the recipe to bake the cookies you prefer using the ratios below.

Ingredients you will need:

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon coarse salt

2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups of chocolate chips

  • To make thin and crispy cookies, add  2 ½ sticks unsalted butter softened, 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar, ¾ cup brown sugar
  • For soft and chewy cookies, add 2 sticks unsalted butter soften , ½ cup granulated sugar, 1 cup brown sugar
  • If you like cakey and light cookies, go with 1 ¾ sticks unsalted butter softened, ¾ cup granulated sugar, ¼ cup brown sugar

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a glass bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda.
  2. In another bowl, mix unsalted butter with both sugars until fluffy, about 5 minutes of stirring. Add in salt, vanilla, and eggs until well-combined; your cookies should still have that fluffy consistency. Mix in flour and baking soda, until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
  3. Line a baking tray with parchment paper or a thin layer of butter. Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough 2-inches apart onto the baking tray.
  4. Bake cookies for 15 minutes or until golden around the edges.

An additional step you can consider is to put the entire mixture into the refrigerator for an hour, covered, before creating the tablespoon-sized balls and placing them on the baking tray: doing so will allow the cookie to have more of that circle shape.

Not all recipes are easy to follow, but they are fun to make, especially with friends and family. Have fun adding different toppings like M&M’s, walnuts, white chocolate chips, or raisins: you cannot go wrong with this recipe.
