Montoya has long had a passion to work at Fermilab.

Science and math teacher Eduardo Montoya will realize his dream this summer when he becomes a Fermilab teacher intern.

After years of waiting, Montoya was accepted by Fermilab to take part in the internship.

“I wanted to do (the internship) since a long a time ago, but I never had the chance to apply and follow through. When I was studying a course in modern physics, I remember seeing the picture of Fermilab in my textbook. I never imagined that later in my life I would be working there,” Montoya said.

This Fermilab event is viewed as beneficial to teachers like Montoya.

“This is a very important opportunity. People who have attended before have said that this internship is very valuable,” Montoya said.

Fermilab is a research laboratory used for the study of particles and is located in Batavia.

The purpose of the internship is to better the skills of teachers and give them an opportunity to experience science in new ways.

“Fermilab will provide me with knowledge, new knowledge. Fermilab is a work class. It’s a good way for increasing scientific knowledge,” Montoya said.

This year, 20 applicants applied for the internship. A group of scientists select a few of the applicants based on their skills set to take part in the event, Fermilab manager Spencer Pasero said.

“This is something that goes across the state. A lot of people apply for this. There are applicants from out of the area. I was really honored and excited to be selected,” Montoya said.
