5 Total Questions

Spring break is ahead, and with it comes lazy days by the pool, swinging coconuts on palm trees, and ocean waves. Or, perhaps spring break ushers in chilly days the slopes, hot cocoa in the lodge, and snowball fights with cousins. Then again, for some, spring break is simply a time to unwind and relax at home without the stress of schoolwork.

Whatever this year’s spring break entails, a person can dream, right? And so, here are the top 5 destinations for spring break vacations.

#5 Dominican Republic

Imagine temperatures in the very high 80s, and UVIs so high, visitors might burn instead of tan. With beautiful beaches and clear waters, the DR is a perfect place for sight-seeing, swimming, and boating as well. With a population of over 11 million people, the streets of the Dominican are full of life at night as well. And despite a booming tourism industry, the island is still largely untouched, with plenty of nature reserves, hiking trails, and cenotes.

Full of contrasts, from neon lights to friendly yet wild dogs, the DR is an exciting place to be end of March.

#4 Cabo San Lucas

Although Cabo may be a little chilly going into spring break, with temperatures ranging from 70 to 80 degrees, the region still offers a very high UVI (the lowest being an 8) for those looking to return to Illinois with a tan. Or a sunburn. Cabo San Lucas is known for its beaches, and vacationers can ride horses in the surf while the sun sets behind them.

El Medano Beach along the ocean is a great place for a boat tour, or just a cruise around. Downtown Cabo is also a beautiful place to visit, day or night, with plenty of restaurants and establishments at which to get a (non-alcoholic) drink or some authentic food.

The views cannot be beat either: everywhere one looks is filled with a tall cactus or a palm tree. Anyone who visits Los Cabos will not regret their week spent there.

#3 Playa del Carmen

The city of Playa del Carmen in Quintana Roo, Mexico, is a beautiful place to visit end of March. With temperatures in the high 80s, and a UVI of above 6, it would be the perfect place to take a vacation. People can get a tan while enjoying a coconut drink on the shoreline of the ocean under palm trees. At night, there are plenty of up-and-coming restaurants.

During the day, Xcaret Park and Xplor Park are two beautiful places to checkout. Visiting the Parque Los Fundadores is a must when vacationing in Playa del Carmen. Of course, people can go shopping all around the avenues and street shops.

Enjoy a hotel, resort, or an AirBNB in Playa del Carmen for a satisfied spring break.

#2 Arizona

No matter where one goes in Arizona, it is a beautiful location. Once again, temperature is key, and here, the highs fall in the mid 70s to 80s, with some high UVIs. Anywhere in Arizona is ideal for this week-long vacation, but in particular, Mesa is home to the Chicago Cubs’ spring training field, Sloan Park. Tempe is also beautiful, especially at night, and visiting Joe’s Italian Ice is a must when driving through. Downtown Tempe is also full of mountains to hike through during the day, and is perfect at sunset.

Scottsdale, Arizona, is where it’s at, though. Along the waterfront is Buzzed Bull Creamery, an iced coffee shop that sells regular lattes and coffees, and this establishment, which offers more options for adults, is a worthy stop, for sure.  Another coffee shop to go to is Sweet Dee’s, which that sells Taylor Swift-themed beverages and cookies, along with other delights. The drinks are based off of Swift’s albums, like “Speak Now”, with a correlating lyric on top.

#1 Florida

Despite some appearances of clouds and chances of rain, the weather is still suitable in Florida for a highly enjoyable spring break. Highs in the 70s and 80s, and a UVI of 8 on average, makes Florida a recommended state to visit. Naples, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Orlando are all hot tourist places that will be packed with visitors this upcoming week.

The beaches of Siesta Key, in particular, are full of life and laughter. One Su

nday nights, several hotels host drum circles where anyone can bring their own drum and join in a musical serenade. Locals and tourists dance around in the middle of the circle, as if nobody is watching.

Of course, Orlando has Disney World and all of its parks. Miami is home to the beaches, and Fort Lauderdale cannot be beat for its boating canals. Really, a traveler cannot go wrong in Florida, and that is what makes this destination top of the list.
