WeGo Drama recently took home a second place finish in the Group Interpretation contest and second in the Drama Contest Play competition this past week for the IHSA Sectionals at Lake Park High School.

After their award-winning performance at Sectionals, they advanced to IHSA State for the Contest Play, Group Interpretation, and the Student Short Film at Glenwood High School in Chatham, Illinois. State competitions were held on March 24 and March 25, and WeGo Drama worked exceptionally hard to prepare, with dozens of hours dedicated to rehearsals and overall practice.

“We’ve had regular rehearsals, and then we added in technical elements for the Contest Play, and brought it all together. We travel with our set and everything to our competitions, and we advanced to the state final,” said English Teacher and Drama Director Mark Begovich.

The Contest Play “The Incident Room” was demoed to certain WCCHS classes on Friday, March 17. The play is a 40-minute cutting of a three-hour play that details the true story of the efforts of British police officers who investigated the Yorkshire Ripper case in the 1970s.

“It’s a lot of work, but it’s a lot of fun, too. This adventure is amazing, great, and [WeGo Drama] gets to go to state, they get to have that experience,” said Begovich.
