Original works were shared at Creative Writing Club’s November open mic event.

A judged poetry slam followed the open mic event.

Students shared their original works on Nov. 19. The slam gave students a chance to compete against each other.

A few audience members judged the speakers.

“It feels like you get the chance to make people laugh or cry. To perform, it’s nice to be able to show people what you’re passionate about,” said senior Creative Writing Club member Noah Clark.

Creative Writing Club is welcoming new members to share their own pieces or go to their writing workshops on the third Thursday of every month.

They are also creating a student blog, the Blank Page, where students can send in their written pieces, photos, or artwork to be put online. Students can submit pieces to Creative Writing Club advisers Tara Deleon or Amanda Cordes for review.

“Our goal as always, is we want a group core of kids that we can grow as poets and speakers,” Deleon said.
