For many years Student Council has used the turkey suit event as a fundraiser.

“Every year that we’ve done it, we’ve picked a charity to use the money to go towards. It varies from year to year. Last year, we used it as our kickoff for Relay for Life,” adviser Candace Fikis said. “That’s what the students decided again. Even though Relay for Life isn’t until May, the earlier you can start fundraising the more money you can end up getting. It was something very personal for a lot of people in Student Council.”

Student Council members walk around with boxes to collect money for the turkey competition.

“The students nominated teachers that they wanted to wear the turkey suit. We came up with a list of teachers and then a student takes the box with a teacher’s name on it and goes around to get donations,” Fikis said.

The two winners, one female and one male, will be announced Tuesday and will teach on Wednesday while wearing the turkey suit.

Many students, as well as teachers, find the event competitive.

“Students get into it. The two or three teachers leading at the end, there’s a lot of push. There are teachers who will pay to keep themselves from doing it,” Fikis said.
