[VOX POP] What is your favorite childhood show?
Sophomore Malaz Elamin is excited and ready to be in journalism. Being fun and sociable are her strong suits. As extraverted as she is, staying at home and watching comfort movies is one of her favorite things to do.
Besides being in journalism, Malaz also participates in ROAR, FCCLA, Yearbook Club, and SPAC (she has participated in way too many clubs). Hanging out with her friends and family makes her feel the best, and helping others makes her feel even better. Just like the crab from Moana, she loves shiny things (a little too much!). One fun fact about her is that she has trypophobia—imagine being scared of holes, LAME! Trying her hardest in school to make the honor roll and taking extra classes makes her feel like Einstein.
Sophomore Evelyn Mondragon is a student at West Chicago Community High School. She joined journalism during the 2025–26 school year because she wanted to try something new. Evelyn wants to improve her social skills and learn photography while also working on her writing. She enjoys reading horror, action, fantasy, and romance stories.
Evelyn used to have a passion for reading — and she means it. She frequently went to her middle school library to check out books and would spend hours reading, just to go back and get a new one. It got to the point where even the librarian recognized her every time she stepped foot into the library.
Evelyn is like a teddy bear: very soft-looking on the outside, with a kind and warm personality on the inside. Do not be afraid to come up to her. She loves to socialize and get to know others and regularly spends time with her family and friends while also balancing her alone time. Evelyn is a part of the girls badminton team and has loved playing ever since. A fun fact about her is that she is allergic to dogs — maybe not really a fun fact. She is looking forward to seeing how much she will learn and what she can get out of journalism this year.
