The West Chicago Community High School A Cappella Chamber Choir traveled to Currier Elementary on March 25 to encourage students to grow their own choral program.
Students departed at approximately 8:50 a.m., boarding a bus and heading to Currier Elementary School. The choir, led by director Brandon Fantozzi, was asked by the district to visit multiple elementary schools, but ultimately was only able to visit Currier due to scheduling constraints. They compiled songs that they had performed throughout the 2025–26 school year and created a set list.
“The process, to me, was very nostalgic because it involves recalling music we sang a semester ago, and it genuinely brings back all the fun memories we had during caroling season and our first concert ever,” junior Michelle Guevara Patino said.
The songs consisted of “Now is the Month of Maying,” “Wind and the Rain,” “Build Me Up Buttercup,” “Time,” “Follow That Star,” and “We’re Going Up to Bethlehem.”
The seniors were given blurbs to read before each song.
“It was a little nerve-racking, but a lot of fun. We were all bringing lots of energy, and I loved looking out to see the kids enjoying it,” senior Nick Riconosciuto said.
The performance lasted a little over 20 minutes, and the choir remained afterward to mingle with the students. The elementary students were very invested in the performance, with some even attempting to sing along or conduct.
“My favorite part of us singing for the kids was seeing their faces being intrigued, [especially] that one kid who was conducting,” Guevara Patino said.
