Seniors at West Chicago Community High School are reflecting on their final year as they celebrate traditions, marking this Homecoming as their last.
Homecoming is one of the signature events of the high school experience, and for seniors, it carries added meaning. Many are excited to take part in spirit week activities, dress up for theme days, and cheer under the Friday night lights, knowing these moments will soon become memories. For some, the past four years have flown by, making every “last” feel even more special.

The last first day, it probably didn’t feel like it was the last first day, just because for the past 12 years it’s been a habit to go back to school,” Luis Catana, a senior at WCCHS, said.
Every fall, students expect to return to school and settle back into routine. But for seniors, the rhythm begins to shift as they realize they are no longer underclassmen. The awareness that graduation is approaching can feel overwhelming as they prepare to step into the real world.
“It feels strange in a way. It’s my last year in high school and I’m experiencing so many things for the final time,” Stephanie Bustamante, a senior at WCCHS, said.
Seniors often feel a mix of excitement for the future and nostalgia for the past. While they look forward to college or careers, many also find themselves reflecting on childhood: remembering elementary or middle school days and wishing, for a brief second, to relive simpler times.
“…In the back of my mind, I know I’m a senior, and it’s my last everything, but I’m just going to have fun throughout the whole week,” Victoria Avila, a senior, said.
For the Class of 2026, Homecoming is not just another week of school spirit: it is an opportunity to create lasting memories before turning the page to the next chapter.
