Justin Timberlake, once hailed as the ‘Prince of Pop,’ deserves more respect from today’s music fans. He is a Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, a talented dancer, and also an actor. Timberlake was part of one of the best boy bands of the ’90s, NSYNC, yet the new generation is not giving him the recognition he deserves.
Born in Memphis, Justin Timberlake joined the trendy boy band NSYNC at just 14, showcasing remarkable talent from a young age. Although NSYNC disbanded in 2004, Timberlake made a bold decision to go solo in 2002, releasing his debut album, “Justified.” This album produced iconic hits like “Señorita,” “Cry Me a River,” and “Rock Your Body,” solidifying his place as a solo artist.
Timberlake has significantly impacted pop culture, not only through his solo career but also as a member of NSYNC. The boy band not only produced hit songs but also paved the way for other boy bands today, such as Seventeen, Jonas Brothers, Big Time Rush, PrettyMuch, One Direction, and more. His solo career has been influential as well, featuring top hits and remarkable collaborations with artists like Missy Elliott, Beyoncé, Timbaland, Rihanna, and Michael Jackson.
Some of Timberlake’s key contributions to pop music include his exceptional tracks and vocals. His music often features choir-like backing vocals, and the grooves in his songs make listeners want to dance or sing along. One of his older albums, “FutureSex/LoveSounds,” showcases a plethora of different styles and beats that can appeal to anyone. Timberlake’s music ranges from hard-hitting tracks like “Señorita,” “Rock Your Body,” “SexyBack,” and “My Love” to softer ballads like “Selfish,” “Drown,” “Cry Me a River,” “Until the End of Time,” and “Mirrors.”
In March 2024, he released his latest album, “Everything I Thought I Was,” featuring the single “Selfish.” Currently, on a world tour, Timberlake blends both his classic hits and new music during his performances. I had the privilege of attending his concert this summer, and it was unforgettable—the setlist, background singers, and dancers were incredible.
Justin Timberlake’s concert is an experience everyone should have. The night starts off with DJ Andrew Hypes, who plays a mix of pop and R&B music from different decades to energize the crowd. As the excitement builds, a big screen displays a video of Timberlake, prompting cheers from the audience. Then, he appears on stage, kicking off the concert with “No Angels” from his new album. Justin’s energy is high and contagious. At one point, he interacted with the audience, and I was lucky enough to join him during “Pusher Love Girl.” Timberlake pointed me out, making the moment feel special.
Despite Timberlake’s powerful legacy, it’s disappointing that many in Gen Z do not fully appreciate his artistry. Even some Millennials seem to overlook his contributions to pop music. Gen Z needs to broaden their horizons and give older music a chance, as it can be refreshing and enjoyable. Often quick to judge or dismiss artists, it’s important to give Justin Timberlake the credit he deserves. His music can brighten anyone’s day. If you’ve never listened to him before, start with “My Love,” and you’ll be hooked!
