Student Council members, from left, senior Olivia Bartler and Adam Hey meet to decorate entrance A for Spooky Fest Friday.

Students will be able to participate in Halloween festivities starting Monday.

Pumpkin contest

All students are invited to show off their creative side in the annual pumpkin decorating contest.

“(We’re looking for) the most creative, ‘Oh my God, look at that (pumpkin),” Horticulture Club adviser Corrie Stieglitz said.

Students choose the design and can carve or paint it.

Pumpkins should be brought to commons Monday and Tuesday between 7:30-7:55 a.m. and will be anonymous for voting.

“I’ll give them (a letter between) A and G and I will link it to their name and ID number,” Stieglitz said.

Students will vote on Halloween through a Google form that will be on announcements.

First place wins $100, second $75, and third $50.

“I’m surprised how little entries we get with that (prize), but (the number) keeps going up through the years (because) the memories build and the rumors spread,” Stieglitz said.

Pumpkins will help decorate Horticulture Club station for Spooky Fest.

Spooky Fest

For the first time, clubs are inviting children to a free pre-Halloween celebration, Spooky Fest, to trick-or-treat and play games Tuesday.

Student Council organized the event.

“(The event) is a really a way for (children) to trick-or-treat inside before Halloween,” Student Council adviser Nick Kempski said.

The event is for children 12 and under.

Participating will be Art Club, Creative Writing Club, Compass, Horticulture Club, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), and Drama.

Each club will have a station with candy and different activities such as coloring, face painting,  story time, and games.

“(Horticulture) will have orange little cups, black sharpies, dirt, and I ordered pumpkin seeds,” Stieglitz said.

The festival will start at 4:30 p.m. through entrance A.

Costume contest

Students can participate in Student Council’s annual costume contest for the chance to win a gift card on Halloween.

“The contest is a competition between students and the high school staff, on who has the funniest, scariest, and most creative costume,” Kempski said.

All students and staff members can participate in the contest.

“The Student Council and the counseling department will be judging the costumes and will determine the winners at the time of the event,” Kempski said.

Only the student winners will receive a gift card.

The contest will start at 7:15 a.m. in commons.
