Three students were honored on Nov. 29 for excellence in art in the Upstate 8 Conference Art Show.

The art show, which includes all the schools in Upstate 8, is a voluntary entry art show that takes place every school year. Students from 13 schools submit their pieces each year, and only 130 are chosen to be judged and shown.

Senior Yori Alacorn placed highest, with “Happy Accidents” taking second place in mixed media. The piece itself took two days, and as the title suggests, was not entirely planned.

“I had the idea in my mind for a while of someone just letting go of anything negative that’s inside of them, but I didn’t really know how to visualize that properly,” Alacorn said. “I did make an accident with the drip but I just let it stay there.”

Senior Sam Truong followed Alacorn in third with his piece titled “The Little Fairy.”

Truong was honored his work was shown in the gallery.

“I did not expect it,” Truong said.

Senior Ashley Oda’s piece, “Flora & Femme” did not place in the painting category.

Art teacher David Exner did not care about the placing though.

“I am very proud of them, even being shown in this gallery is an achievement,” Exner said.
