Four swimmers from the Wego-Batavia swim team competed at state on Nov. 18 at Evanston Township High School.

Senior Natalie Nelson and junior Ula Konopko qualified for state. From Batavia, freshman Kelly Sego and Annabelle Kinerk qualified.

Nelson competed in the 100 free with a time of 52.51 seconds and won 20th place. She also swam in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.17 and won 25th place.

“She helped out the team a lot throughout the season and tapered for the sectional meet instead of the state meet. She did a pretty decent job but it wasn’t enough to make the final 12 for the state finals,” head coach Nick Parry said.

The girls swam in the 200 medley relay and won 28th place with a time of 1:48.45.

“We went slower than what we did at sectionals for the relay which is to be expected. It was our second fastest time so that was nice,” Parry said.

From Batavia Sego finished 37th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.24.

Competing in state was exciting for Konopko.

“State was exciting. It was awesome to swim with some of the best teams in Illinois and I am proud of our team for supporting us along the way,” Konopko said.

State marked the end of the girls swim season.

“We had a lot of girls get personal bests in their events because they got faster. The team was very supportive to the state qualifiers,” Parry said.
