It’s finally that time of the year. Saturday kicks off the WeGot game homecoming week.

Starting at 8 a.m., students will be able to come to the school and participate in the annual window painting and decorating. Also, clubs and sports will be building floats for the parade throughout the week.

Each day there will be a dress up theme. Monday is pajama day, Tuesday is sports jersey day, Wednesday is beach day, Thursday is class game theme, and Friday is class shirts.

“FBLA, not Student Council, always does the dodge ball tournament on Monday night. That’s always extremely popular,” Student Council adviser Candace Fikis said.

On Wednesday, “Jumanji” will be playing out on the football field for movie night at 7 p.m. Clubs will sell different food items throughout the night.

Thursday, students and staff will have the chance to dress up for their class game theme.

“Freshmen are Candyland, sophomores are Twister, juniors are Monopoly, seniors are Operation, and staff is Clue. So dress like a character that’s in (your game) or some colors that go along with that,” Fikis said.

Student Council is hoping to start the color wars tradition by making Friday class shirt day.

“It’s popular in a lot of schools. They are based on school colors so you have grey, blue, and white. But you can see each of the classes that way so that’s what we’re hoping,” Fikis said.

Friday is jam packed with events. Directly after the pep assembly, students can participate in the annual food fest, parade, and powder puff game.

Student Council decided to offer a staff/WeGoners reception between the food fest and the parade.

“Staff members who used to work here come back. So those that have retired,” Fikis said. Homecoming is when alumni “come back home.” And some will stay for the game or a class from 40 or 50 years ago is going to have a float in the parade.”

Usually, the sophomore football team plays before varsity. This year, the boys varsity soccer team will be playing at 5 p.m., instead. Following the soccer game, the varsity football team will play their annual homecoming game at 7:30 p.m.

The homecoming dance will begin on Saturday at 7 p.m. For the people who don’t want to dance, you can also play games.

“We are actually opening up the field house for the first time. And we are going to have board games and then we bought large game like an inflatable bowling set, life-size Jenga, large tick-tack-toe, bags, that sort of thing,” Fikis said.

Student Council has learned from prom, over the years, that it is really nice when there is a dance that you have something else for people to do.

“We know a lot of people don’t like to dance, they get tired, or they get hot and they might stop and get a snack or something. So now students can sit and play games with their friends,” Fikis said.

Tickets will be on sale starting Monday for $20. If students decide to pay at the door it will be $25.

“Yes it went up five dollars this year, but we are trying to offset the cost of prom because every year it gets more expensive. So we’re hoping that extra $5 added to that is going to help us pay for prom because Student Council now is responsible for paying for the buses,” Fikis said.
