Two senior athletes signed with colleges on Thursday to play their respective sports as parents, coaches, and family members watched in support.

Alexa Vega will attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and play center mid for the girls soccer team.

“I just want to thank my whole family for always supporting me and always going to my games,” Vega said. “They’ve been a really big support and I don’t think I could have done it without them.”

Vega wants to study education and be a guidance counselor.

Ashley Tijerina will attend University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and will be on the track and field team.

“Honestly, I just want to say thank you to my coaches. I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for them,” Tijerina said.

Tijera wants to major in psychology and minor in criminology.

The school takes the time to mentor, groom, and lead students in the right direction, according to athletic director Doug Mullaney.

“It’s a long journey and it happens fast and in a blink of an eye it’s over,” Mullaney said.
