An ice layer has formed on top of the snow and all sidewalks and roads are covered in a layer of ice.

In the early hours of Jan. 23, Communications and Community Relations Coordinator Brittney Walker announced via e-mail that today would be an e-learning day for West Chicago Community High School due to unfavorable road conditions, which made it unsafe to drive to school.

Jan. 23 is the third e-learning day this semester, following school cancellations on Jan. 16 and Jan. 12. The month of January has brought on seriously cold temperatures, some of which have made it below the negatives, resulting in ideal conditions for ice to form.

“Due to icy road conditions, we have decided to transition to e-learning for today, January 23. This decision has been made with the safety and well-being of our students and staff in mind. Information about after-school activities and athletics, including the Distinguished Alumni Awards, will be decided later today and will have a follow-up email,” Walker said.

In-person learning is expected to resume on Jan. 24 should road conditions be safe.
