Snubbed? What happened to Florida State?

The team is “devastated” not be in the college football playoffs.

This year’s college football playoffs promise some intense games, with a showdown between the Washington Huskies and the Texas Longhorns, and another between the Michigan Wolverines and Alabama Crimson Tide.

The #2 Washington Huskies are facing off versus the #3 Texas Longhorns which should be an intense game because of Texas’s high-powered defense and Washington’s equally as-powered offense. The Michigan Wolverines are back with Jim Harbaugh as head coach after his time off, Harbaugh is going to have a tough 2nd game-back matchup versus the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Tide were not in the playoffs last year and they are out for revenge. But what about the teams that did not make the cut?

Fans believe one team in particular was snubbed from the playoffs this year: the Florida State Seminoles, who went 13-0 on the season with big wins versus LSU, Clemson, and Louisville. However, this year’s playoff selections were determined by a committee, not their overall rank, as in year’s past. The committee was hesitant about the Seminoles because of quarterback Jordan Travis, who got injured in the middle of Nov. in a game versus the North Alabama Lions. Travis broke his leg, but after he left the game that Saturday, the Seminoles still scored 58 unanswered points.

The Seminoles also beat their rivals, the Florida Gators, and won the ACC championship under a backup quarterback – but that fact did not sway the committee to put Florida State in the playoffs, which crushed the Seminoles. A few hours after the committee’s decision, Jordan Travis came out and shared his thoughts about the decision on Twitter: “devastated. heartbroken. In so much disbelief rn, I wish my leg broke earlier in the season so y’all could see this team is much more than the quarterback. I thought results matter. 13-0 and this roster matches up across any team in those top 4 rankings. I am so sorry. Go Noles!”

Committee member Boo Corrigan spoke to ESPN on Dec. 3, and double-downed about their decision.

“Florida State is a different team than they were through the first 11 weeks,” Corrigan said. “An incredible season. But as you look at who they are as a team, right now, without Jordan Travis, without the offensive dynamic that he brings to it, they are a different team.”
