[SLIDESHOW] WCCHS hosts annual Homecoming parade

The parade, celebrating the new school year and the football team’s Homecoming game, was held on Sept. 29.

On September 29, West Chicago Community High School celebrated Homecoming with their annual parade that trailed down Joliet Street, E. Hazel Street, Bishop Street, and Brown Street to participate in showing off the clubs and sports WeGo has to offer.

The parade started at 12:45 p.m., with WCCHS’ band leading. Other clubs and sports followed, including wrestling, WeGo Buddies, soccer, volleyball, WeGo Global, golf, Pep Club, GSA, Compass, BPA and more.

For many, the parade was an opportunity to create memories and bond with other students.

“Students have gotten really close over the past four years. I’ve never seen energy like this at a school event and I’m excited for the upcoming year. It’s early right now but I mean it’s great, I love it,” senior Brady Johnson said. Johnson rode in the parade as part of Pep Club.

Those who participated in the parade walked or rode on “floats,” which were dressed-up cars decorated by the students. Students who marched were able to throw candy at students from Leman Middle School, and Gary Elementary School. This year marked the return of the Gary students’ presence, as they were not able to attend in previous years due to COVID and parade routing.

For the seniors, the parade was one of several “lasts” to come in the final year of high school.

“Honestly, it’s been great. Everyone says high school goes by fast and it really does. This year has been the most fun of all because, you know, you’re about to leave, so you want to enjoy the experience,” senior Maggie White said.
