The Wildcats’ score in the second half of the game against Glenbard East on Sept. 13 remained 0-0.

West Chicago Community High School’s boys’ soccer team lost against Glenbard East, 0-2, on Sept 13.

On Wednesday, the Wildcats faced the Rams head-to-head at Memorial Stadium. The match started at 6:30 p.m., but it was close to half an hour into the game before the Rams put up the first shots.

The Wildcats received several freekicks against the Rams in the first two quarters; most of the action on the field was held on Glenbard’s side. Despite this, the Rams defense remained strong. Halftime began with a score of 0-0.

Fans in the stands were disappointed, as the boys’ soccer team has a history of dominating on the field.

“We suck. Well, we’re not that bad,” senior student spectator Travis Frake said.

The game moved into the second half as night descended on the stadium. The Wildcats and Rams switched sides and some players, then listened to motivational speeches by their coaches. The second half of the game kicked off, and both teams were raring to go.

Around 15 minutes into the game, the Rams ramped up the offense but failed to score. Soon after, the Wildcats shot into the opposing goal, but the ball landed on top of the net. Both teams took shots at each other for the next half hour. The score was still 0-0 as the game approached its end.

“It should’ve gone to us. It should’ve been our game,” Goalkeeper Julian Nicoski, a senior, said.

Nicoski believed the offense against Glenbard East could have been stronger.

“Attack-wise wasn’t that good, defense was good,” Nicoski said.

The game ended at around 8:40 p.m  with a final score of 0-2.

While both teams demonstrated good sportsmanship towards each other and dismissed each other with handshakes, the remaining viewers exited the stadium as the WEGO soccer team and viewers discussed their results and what went wrong – despite a hard-fought game. The final conclusion, according to some spectators, was that the match was not played with enough merit.

“There’s no ambition,” senior Pablo Salinas said.
