If you are sick of listening to the same repetitive music and you have been looking for a new up-and-coming artist to add to your favorite playlist, then you are in luck. The solution: Joshua Bassett.

In the last couple of years, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding Joshua Bassett. He received a lot of hate when “Driver’s License” by Olivia Rodrigo was released on January 8, 2021. Soon after, Rodrigo’s album “sour” dropped. Many listeners believed that a couple of the songs were about Bassett and Rodrigo’s rumored relationship which ended in 2020, and he was the target of many rude and harmful comments by Rodrigo’s listeners, including death threats. Since then, he has risen above all that drama and is a very successful pop artist.

Listed below are the top five reasons why Joshua Bassett should be on everyone’s playlist.

Joshua Bassett

5: Affordable concert tickets

Bassett wrapped up his 2023 tour, “The Complicated Tour” in May. Tickets went on sale in December 2022 and were extremely affordable for general admission. Like any other concert, VIP and meet and greets are a tad more costly, but overall, the tickets were cheap at only $60 per ticket. Having cheap tickets shows that Bassett’s music is accesible to all his fans, even those with lower income. This just further proves how much he cares for fans.

4: He interacts with his fans

Unlike some other artists, Bassett interacts a lot with his fans and is very active on social media. He posts frequently on Instagram and is active in a Discord server for his fanbase.

He often stays outside of concert venues to talk to fans, give them his autograph or write out tattoos for them, and sings with them even after long performances. It is safe to say that Bassett cares about his fans and really appreciates the community that he created. It was especially kind when Bassett surprised fans with an extra thirty tickets for sale for his closing show of the tour.

“I think it [his connections with his fans] really shows the humanity and kindness he has,” Kayla, a Twitter user in the “Jbassie” fandom said (shared with permission).

3: Content Galore

As previously mentioned, Bassett is active on social media. He posts on his Instagram story and feed very often. He posts tour updates, random selfies, and some posts about his religion. He also posts poems or “words of wisdom” which can be found in his story highlights. There are also multiple accounts run by fans that are dedicated to posting timely updates on his tour, movies and TV shows, interviews, and posts.

Bassett also has a wide selection of interviews/podcasts to keep his fans entertained. They range from topics like music, being in the entertainment industry, and his personal life, all of which can be found on YouTube.

2: Bassett preaches positivity

Despite everything that he has gone through in the last few years, Bassett preaches positivity and is an active advocate for mental health. He is not afraid to be vulnerable with people and often opens up about his encounters with depression, sexual abuse, and religious trauma. During “The Complicated Tour,” Bassett gave a personal speech to the crowd before the songs “Lifelineand “All in Due Timeto talk about his near-death experience after being diagnosed with septic shock. His experiences with severe depression let fans know that they are not alone and that in the end, they will be okay.

“You really are not alone no matter how much you feel alone. As a society, we need to stop shaming speaking out and we need to start doing it more often,” Bassett said at his Vancouver performance this year.

Also, he is openly queer and Christian which many find comforting because it gives fans an accepting and kind role model for people to look up to.

1: His music is always serving

Bassett has a decent-sized discography for an up-and-coming pop artist. Not only does he have a lot of music, but the songs also vary in topic. What makes Bassett different from other artists is that his music has many different meanings. For example, “All in Due Time” is about mental health, and “Heaven is You,” is about being in love, which are notably different topics.

Some tracks are slower and sadder, while others are more upbeat and happier. There are little to no skips in his discography. No matter the vibe, each and every song is beautiful and unique. He has also grown a lot as an artist, and his voice and control have improved so much since he first started releasing music in 2020. Not to mention his energy on stage is always amazing and chaotic in the best way possible. His voice is strong, and he sounds the same singing live as he does in his studio-recorded songs.

To sum it all up, Joshua Bassett is a multi-talented artist with a bubbly and chaotic personality who created and appreciates such a large community of supporters. He has fantastic music and is such a fun artist to see perform, which is why he should be on everyone’s playlist this summer.
