There is nothing more comparable than cozying up, with a warm drink, after a cool fall day watching Hocus Pocus. One of the best ways to celebrate the fall season is by warming up to one of these films. So, here are our top five Halloween-spirited movies to watch this beautiful season!
Casper (1995): Casper is not just the perfect movie for kids, but for everyone! Audiences get the fun experience of a friendly, personable ghost that befriends a human family. Not every Halloween movie needs to be terrifying and put you on edge: part of the spirit of Halloween is having light-hearted thrills as well. A father (Bill Pullman) and daughter (Christina Ricci) move into an old haunted mansion and quickly meet the friendly boy-turned-ghost, Casper (Devon Sawa). He welcomes them, and does not want them to be afraid of him as a ghost. You will quickly fall in love with this movie, and Casper the cartoon-like ghost.
Monster House (2006): Have you ever been frightened by a house on your street? Maybe it is unfamiliar, or the neighbor is scary. We bet you never thought that a house on your street could be alive! In this early 2000s film directed by Steven Spielberg, the adults did not believe the kids (Mitchel Musso, Sam Lerner and Spencer Locke) when they claimed the house was out to get them. It is up to three youths to rid the house for trick-or-treaters and make it out alive. What will happen to them?
Coraline (2009): Coraline is not an over-the-top scary movie, but it will give you goosebumps. It is a good family night Halloween movie, and an animated one too. The film tells the story of a young Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning), who moves to a new home with a deep past. Upon entering a small door in her new home, she discovers a parallel world, filled with extraordinary perks, and dangerous traps. Will Coraline choose her Other Family? Will she give up her eyes for buttons? You have to watch this daunting movie to understand, and find out her fate…
The Haunted Mansion (2003): What can better than watching a comedic Halloween movie? Disney’s The Haunted Mansion has its spooky scenes, but still offers great entertainment for family movie night. In the movie, which stars Eddie Murphy as Jim Evers, a realtor who takes his family on vacation, and stops on the way home to take a look at a mansion for sale. The Evers family ends up getting trapped inside the mansion by Master Gracey (Nathaniel Parker), Ramsley (Terence Stamp) and several other ghosts. Will the Evers make it out alive? Watch to determine their fate.
Hocus Pocus (1993): This is such a classic Halloween movie that has become a symbol for the season. Any store you go to during the fall season will have merchandise from this film. In the movie, two curious kids explore their town after recently moving to Salem, Massachusetts. In doing so, they spark some attention from unwanted and mysterious people: three mystical, evil witches known as the Sanderson sisters (Bette Midler, Kathy Najimi and Sarah Jessica Parker). The kids, Max (Omri Katz), Dani (Thora Birch), and Allison (Vinessa Shaw) must work together to steal the witches’ spell book to escape their doom.
This movie is excellent and will provide great entertainment for all audiences. Hocus Pocus is an incredibly spooky and intriguing story will put you right in the spirit, making it our top movie on this list. Watching the movie and experiencing the season you will see “It’s all just a bunch of Hocus Pocus.”
