National Honor Society (NHS) and the American Cancer Society will be hosting Relay for Life, a six-hour long walk to support anyone affected by cancer.

It will take place Friday after school from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the stadium or in the field house if the weather doesn’t hold.

“Kids can either join a team and do something additional fundraising (or get) a sponsor. Most of that is being done through different activities and clubs. Or they can create a team on their own through the website in the student announcements,” NHS adviser Nick Caltagirone said.

Students can also show up to the event, pay a $10 donation, and participate as an individual.

This is NHS’s first year organizing the event.

“There’s an unknown as to what it will be like since we were not involved with it last year. The basic setup is the same,” Caltagirone said.

NHS organized a battle of the bands and will provide games and activities for students who participate.

“We are also going to do the luminaria ceremony,” junior Mike Sawicki said.

NHS encourages students and the community to participate in Relay for Life.

“Cancer impacts all of us in one way or another. We don’t have to go too far out of the immediate circle to find people who have been affected by cancer,” Caltagirone said.
