Seasonal pumpkin contest encourages students to participate
November 1, 2016
Pumpkin carvers are encouraged to take part in Horticulture Club’s annual season inspired contest.
For four years, Horticulture Club has held their pumpkin carving event.
“Participation has been increasing. The first year we only had seven pumpkins. Last year we had 20 pumpkins. It keeps building. People will remember it as sophomores or freshman,” adviser Corrie Stieglitz said.
The event was created as a way to give back to students for supporting the club.
“With our plant sale in the spring, we’re giving back to the student body from our funds to say ‘thank you’,” Stieglitz said.
Horticulture Club encourages students to be creative with their pumpkins.
“I love people who are creative. They can do carving and painting. The sky’s the limit,” Stieglitz said.
The club picks 10 pumpkins that they believe are the best and then students vote on the top three during third hour on Tuesday.
Pumpkins are due on Monday and will be displayed in commons.
The first place winner will receive a $100 gift card, second place will win a $75 gift card, and third place will win a $25 gift card.
