The freshman biology classes had some surprises during their shark dissections when they found babies in their specimens.

Biology teacher Krysta Schoenbeck found one pregnant shark out of her three classes, meanwhile biology teacher Corrie Stieglitz found one pregnant shark out of her four classes.

“I was excited because we had been waiting all day for a pregnant shark, and you never know. You can order pregnant sharks on purpose from different companies, if you’re studying reproduction. Sometimes we stumble upon some, and today the kids all zoomed over and hovered over the table to see,” said Stieglitz.

As a learning procedure, every year the students take time in class to dissect small sharks.

The baby sharks are disposed of when the dissection is over.

All of the sharks come  from a biological supply company.

“They are a company geared towards selling  equipment and things for high school science classrooms,” said Schoenbeck.
