Britta Renwick, a former WEGO teacher and the gallery manager at Gallery 200, has introduced a new series of art classes in downtown West Chicago. These classes, which began in January, will continue through March 2025, offering a creative space for artists of all skill levels.
Artists from the area have the opportunity to pre-register and showcase their talents in a variety of mediums, including painting, crafts, and ceramics. The Gallery, located at 103 W. Washington St., provides a dynamic environment where people of all ages can participate in exhibitions. With 30 artists featured each month, spots fill up quickly. Many participants also have the opportunity to sell their work and gain exposure through community events. Gallery 200’s team actively promotes these opportunities through exhibits at the College of DuPage and participation in Blooming Fest.
“Participating in the art classes is perfect for everyone. You don’t need to be the best drawer. It’s fun to enjoy being creative—art is a great way to express yourself and follow what you like,” Renwick said.
The art classes are a relatively new addition to Gallery 200, expanding its role as a creative hub in the community. In addition to the ongoing classes, the Gallery is currently seeking artists interested in anime-style artwork to display their pieces in June and July 2025. Submissions will be accepted starting in April.

Beyond offering a space for individual creativity, the Gallery fosters collaboration. Many of the activities involve teamwork, allowing participants to connect with others who share a passion for art. The space is open to more than just traditional paintings and drawings—ceramics, mixed media, and craft-based pieces are also welcomed.
“I think taking art classes is a good opportunity to try something new, whether or not you have experience. It can be a way to express yourself visually and learn different techniques. If you’re hesitant, you could also invite friends. There are so many ways to make art that there’s something for everyone,” senior Itzel Nuñez said.
For those passionate about getting their work seen, Gallery 200 offers significant opportunities. With hundreds of visitors each month, artists can reach a wider audience and gain valuable exposure. The Gallery will celebrate its 20th anniversary in October, marking two decades of fostering creativity in the West Chicago community.
“I would recommend students at WEGO check it out. It’s a great way to connect with the community, and it may offer classes that we don’t have here. If students don’t have space for an art class at school, this could be a great opportunity,” art and ceramics teacher Megan Dulkinys said.
The Gallery is sponsored by the DuPage Foundation. For more information, please visit Gallery 200’s website.
