Sophomore Hannah Bramos founded the new Sign Language Club after a desire to help others learn about and communicate through sign language due to having a deaf friend herself.

“I think it gives people a new perspective on how different people communicate, and it’s just something new to learn. It’s fun and can add to the diversity of our school,” adviser Jennifer Grenchik said.

The club had its first meeting on Jan. 14 to start off their sign language sessions.

“I was just hoping to get a lot of people to come and learn about deaf culture,” Bramos said.

Club members will start off by learning basic sign language conversation skills.

Every week members will be introduced to a new topic. Some starting ideas consist of the alphabet, animals, and colors.

“I started to learn over the summer, and her friend would help and teach me some more. It was cool learning sign language,” Bramos said.

Sign Language Club meets every Thursday in the student activities center.
