WEGO’s French and German foreign language students presented about their classes at Leman Middle School on Thursday, January 18.
The students left the school in the morning around 9:45 a.m. and walked down the street to the middle school. The goal was to encourage 8th graders to sign up for French or German class.
“The purpose of the trip is to connect the middle school with the outgoing seniors so they can envision what it would be like to learn French for four years,” French teacher Carol Skala said.
Once they arrived at the middle school, the students were greeted by Leman staff and escorted to the library where they could convene when they had breaks in between presentations.
“I cannot believe I am here again. I feel a little nostalgic and some anxiety is setting in,” senior Enaya Kazmi said.

There were three sessions of presentations so the French and German students divided and conquered, all going to different classrooms. In each presentation there was a German class group and French group so that students could learn about both of the language options. Each presentation consisted of an introduction in either French or German, some background information about the class and an activity for the middle school students to excite them about foreign language in high school.
“It was very eye opening to see the new generation as they are going to take over our legacy. I hope some of them take French next year,” senior Andrea Nunez said.
