The play is student-directed, and alludes to over 100 fairy tale stories during its run-time.

WeGo Drama at West Chicago Community High School kicks off the 23-24 theatrical season tonight with their New Directors’ Showcase piece: “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” by Don Zolidis.

This comedy portrays classic fairy tales in unique and revised ways. WeGo Drama adviser Mark Begovich describes the show as very fast-paced and a clever farce. The show is designed to correspond with WeGo Drama’s season theme: “Once More with Feeling.”

“The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” is directed by seniors Alex Bradley and Ryley Salazar, and junior Mariah Varnado, all WCCHS students who participate in drama. Technical Direction is by Christopher Jensen; costumes by Kim Maslo.

“This show is full of goofiness and is sure to make people of all ages laugh,” Bradley said. Bradley is a member of WeGo Drama’s executive board.

General admission seating tickets for the show, which promises to be entertaining and humorous, are now on sale at www.wegotheatre.com and will also be available at the door. The price is $5 for students and $8 for adults. Performances are on August 18 and 19 at 7:00 p.m. in Weyrauch Auditorium.

“I’ve found myself erupting in laughter numerous times throughout the rehearsal process,” Salazar, also an executive board member, said in advance of opening night.

Sophomore Ja’Nyah Villa and junior Wil Cooper go through the motions during a rehearsal for “The Brothers Grimm: Spectaculathon”, which premieres on August 18 in Weyrauch Auditorium.

The company of actors and crew for the show include:

Seniors Mariana Acosta, Noemi Amaro, Michael Angeles, Lucas Brown, Carolyn Fleming, Sentia Irakoze, Nirali Kadakia, Kayliana Koeune, Avery Moffatt, Karidja Monjolo, and Jocelyn Ramirez;

Juniors Arson Gutierrez, Stephanie Alfaro, Antwan Angeles, Wil Cooper, Pamela Cruz, Danais Gomez-Garcia, Matthew Krysinski, Edgar Oropeza, Romina Pietanza, Alex Rocha, William Wenberg, and Dayan Zenteno;

Sophomores Issac Argomaniz, Jacob Benitez, Emmanuel Cruz, Bo Dragosh, and Ja’Nyah Villa;

Freshmen Lizeth Hernandez, Caiden McDougall, Elisa O’Brien, and Kimberly Ramirez.

Those looking for a laugh this weekend are encouraged to see the performance.

“I know that no matter how many times I have seen the show, I laugh every time; it is a great one to bring the whole family to see,” Varnado said.
