Dance production to break hearts at annual showcase
December 5, 2018
Dance production is ready to perform their ‘Heartbreakers’ themed showcase on Thursday and Saturday in the auditorium.
“It’s rewarding to see all of our hard work being paid off during this busy week. Despite the fact that we have some really late nights, everyone gives each dance their all so we can put on a great show for our school and make our dance teacher proud,” senior dancer Caroline Orr said.
Dance production is a semester-long PE class and is open to all grade levels for boys and girls.
“Students have to audition and auditions are usually held in March,” dance production teacher Jordan Covella said. “Once school starts in the fall, students work on choreographing their own routines and they eventually teach those routines to their peers.”
The theme name was inspired by the opening song “How to be a Heartbreaker” that senior Jenna Brown, choreographed.
Students will perform jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, and musical theater pieces.
“If you’re in dance production you are required to make up a dance. This year we have 19 people and eight of them are seniors. There are three dances that have the whole group in it and seniors will be doing solos,” Covella said.
Orr has been dancing since she was 2 years old and has been on both dance team and dance production for all four years of high school. She will be performing a solo to “Never Gonna Let You Down.”
“The best part about dancing is being able to do what I love with my best friends,” Orr said.
Tickets will be $5 at the door.
