Gymnast senior Shaye Lauro signed a division 1 scholarship letter to join the acrobatics and tumbling team at Baylor University Wednesday.

Lauro received the scholarship after she was evaluated through videos that she submitted to the university.

“(To get the scholarship) you send videos to the school or coaches and then, they will reach out to you based on who you do,” Lauro said.

Lauro has not done the sport because it is administrated at the collegiate level by the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA) but she has participated in similar sports.

“I’ve done gymnastics for nine years, cheerleading for one year, and dive for a year,” Lauro said.

Although Lauro is thrilled to be an athlete at Baylor University, she is undecided on what she wants to study.

“I’m very excited,” Lauro said.
