The West Chicago Sister Cities welcomed 17 guests from Taufkirchen, Germany on Sunday.

“This is another great opportunity for our students to build international bridges and tear down some of the walls that can divide us,” sponsor David Sayner said.

The German guests visited the school Monday from periods 1 to 3, afterward, they went on a walking tour to downtown West Chicago.

The students will be visiting different places such as Cantigny Park, Chicago, and Springfield.

The club was brought to the school by the community’s West Chicago Sister Cities Club and Sayner hopes to help the club grow.

“Yes, we do speak different languages, we have different holidays, different traditions and clothing. But we have a lot in common and in the end, you’re going to get a lot more from being in an international perspective,” Sayner said.

Students at the school also have the opportunity to travel to Europe.

“Fundraisers will help pay for some of the costs for our students that can’t afford it, and kind of offset some of the prices,” Sayner said. “Also, the Sisters Cities Club has some scholarships, so we want to make this as affordable and open as many doors to as  students who want to experience Europe.”

Fundraisers are being planned for the school year.
