LRC offers blind date with books
February 26, 2018
Students can check out a wrapped book as part of the Blind Date with a Book contest.
“(The contest) is to promote reading (and) for the kids to have a voice in what they like to read for school,” library media specialist Donna Leahy said.
To enter the Blind Date with a Book contest students must check out a wrapped book and fill out the heart raffle ticket.
Two raffle drawings will be held Wednesday and the winners will be announced during third hour.
“I came up with this concept from tying Valentine’s Day and a couple things that are going on in February,” Leahy said. “(One is) a ‘Blind date with a book’, (which is where) books are all wrapped up and there is a heart on the books and it gives you a little sampling on what might be inside the book.”
The sampling might include the genre or key points of the book.
Students can check out more than one book and each one will be a different raffle ticket.
The other contest requires students to vote for a book.
“The next thing we are doing is the ABE award. (Which is where) every year high school students pick high school books for peers,” Leahy said. “We vote in February and when we are voting for them (books) all of our votes go tie in with the state votes (these votes are from all the schools in the state that take part of the ABE award) to pick the winner. So I’m tying that drawing to the other one (Blind Date with a Book) for sweet treats.”
