WeGo homecoming banners underway
September 8, 2017
It’s finally homecoming season and Art Club is taking the lead. The club has been designing the banners every year for almost three decades.
“Art Club has designed the banners for homecoming even before I got here and I’ve been working in the school for 29 years,” Art Club adviser David Exner said.
This year’s banners are based on the decade theme.
“The theme that Student Council picked is ‘WeGo Through Time.’ They got the decades picked out, so the banners are images from the ‘50s, ‘60s,’70s, ‘80s, and the future,” Exner said.
Exner credits the president of Art Club Sean Renwick for the banner design.
“The person who has been designing it for the last four years is a senior, Sean Renwick, I think he should get some recognition,” Exner said. “Students come out with the ideas (for the design), but Sean did the drawings, free hand and all on his own on paper and we used an overhead projector to make it larger.”
Every year, Exner hopes to bring the homecoming spirit to students with the banners.
“(Making the banners) it’s a chance for our club to get everyone in school excited about homecoming. It’s our way of getting everyone to gain school spirit,” Exner said.
