Audience awaits shows offering multiple perspectives
March 10, 2017
After months of rehearsal, WeGo Drama is preparing for the IHSA contest plays with performances Friday and Saturday.
They will be performing “Far Away” and “Wrecked.”
“(‘Far Away’) deals with the concepts of war and its effects in its people, how each side of the war is a matter of perspective,” director Mark Begovich said.
They will also be performing “Wrecked” for their group interpretation, which is an adaption of the novel.
“(‘Wrecked’) is about problems facing women on the college campus and how they are treated in the university systems,” Begovich said.
WeGo Drama officers choose the shows. Their goal is to have the audience discuss the different perspectives of the show.
“We want people to think since these plays are provoking. We want them to leave the theater and be left less purposely hanging in thought since it a matter of perspective and interpretation,” Begovich said.
State competition is March 24 and 25. WeGo Drama went to state last year and earned sixth place.
“In our contest play, my character can’t tell if she is good or bad, so there is some ambiguity on that so it is interesting and it is up for interpretation,” junior Natalie Thompson said.
The cast finds the rehearsal process to be rewarding.
“We get to embrace the character we are and appreciate the characterization of each character at the end of the rehearsal process,” senior Joy Vogt said.
There is no charge for tickets, but a donation of $10 is suggested. The show starts at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
