Charity fundraiser collects shoes for good cause
February 27, 2017
Over 200 pairs of shoes were donated in the two-week Club Green shoe drive.
Boxes were distributed to every teacher with a third-hour class. After school Feb. 15, club members gathered all the boxes and counted all the donated shoes.
“The shoe drive is a good way to promote recycling,” sophomore Club Green member Camryn Liberio said.
All types of shoes were donated including, gym shoes, high heels, soccer cleats, and sandals.
All donations will go to Shoe Heals, a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides shoes to people in need.
“It’s a good way to make sure the shoes don’t make their way to the landfill,” Club Green adviser Suzanne Burchacki said.
A prize incentive for the shoe drive encouraged people to donate.
Science teacher Krysta Schoenbeck’s class won a cupcake party for donating over 50 pairs shoes.
