After competing in sectionals, junior Kelly Lynch advanced to state for bowling on Friday and had the privilege of being a first-time state qualifier.

“I did not place to move on to the second day (at state), which means I did not place as well as I would have hoped but just making it there was enough of a prize,” Lynch said.

Lynch was surprised that she advanced to state.

“State seemed like such a distant fantasy, when I heard my name called as an advancing individual, that dream suddenly became a reality. It was stunning. I honestly did not even plan on making it that far,” Lynch said.

To prepare for state, Lynch made sure she had a stress free week.

“I had the privilege of meeting so many kind, dedicated girls and learning the pressure of a high-intensity tournament. It has allowed me to grow as an individual, and, hopefully, prepare for next year,” Lynch said.

Lynch did not have her teammates by her side which was a bit of a struggle.

“I am aware that confidence is the key to success, however I was not at all confident going into the tournament. It was hard for me to be confident without my teammates that I usually bowl with,” Lynch said.

Nevertheless, Lynch had a positive attitude that helped her to compete.

“The experience was unforgettable. I genuinely enjoyed being there, even if my scores were not the best. It was critical to keep a positive attitude,” Lynch said.
