After placing first in regionals on Saturday, senior Trey Lally is moving onto sectionals and is expected to be a state qualifier in wrestling.

“I performed well and made sure to wrestle smart while competing. I took first place and will be focusing on placing in the top four at sectionals to advance to state,” Lally said.

Lally missed one point in sectionals last year which didn’t allow him to move onto state.

“As a junior, it was a tough loss there but I am hopeful he will be going to state,” head coach Bill Dragonetti said.

Since then, Lally has improved as a wrestler.

“He has grown a lot of ways; maturity and wise as a person. He became a captain for this season because he earned it and it showed how he has grown both physically and mentally,” Dragonetti said.

Sectionals take place Friday and Lally will focus on having a good week in practice.

“Regionals was important to me because it was a good way to boost my confidence going into sectionals,” Lally said.

Trey’s parents supported him by cheering him on during regionals.

“I will always tell him to do your best and without any regrets,” Lally’s mother Cory Lally said.

Lally wants to wrestle in college. He is waiting for the end of the season to choose a college since he wants to compare each college scholarship he will receive.

To prepare for sectionals, Lally is making sure he eats healthy.

“I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and try not to eat a lot of carbs. My stomach gets full off of fruits and vegetables so my stomach gets kind of light without eating carbs,” Lally said.

Lally has been wrestling since he was 6.

“I have been working out over the past year which has been a huge boost in my wrestling and I feel confident I have worked hard enough to advance to state,” Lally said.
