The sound of the starting gun, cheers echoed over the field house, the slight breeze, and team spirit throughout Glenbard North High School.
On Feb. 19, the West Chicago Community High School girls’ track and field headed to Carol Stream for a quad meet that included three other teams: Metea Valley, Glenbard North, and Senn (Chicago).

PRE-RACE PREP: Before each race, runners, including senior Shakira Williams, take time to warm up, jogging lightly and performing dynamic stretches to loosen tight muscles and increase blood flow. Some practice quick strides or technique drills, sharpening both their bodies and minds for the competition ahead. These routines not only help prevent injury but also prepare athletes to explode off the starting line with focus and power, ensuring every step is strong from the very beginning.
