For years, the Board of Education and counselors asked for a program to help students prepare for college. Over the summer, the College and Career Center was finally made.

Counselors worried students wouldn’t know what to do after they graduated.

“We want to make sure students are prepared for whatever they have planned after high school. Whatever their plan is, we want it to be realistic and viable. It should be a defined plan,” division head counselor Len Egan said.

There are a variety of programs offered that explain and guide students through different admission college processes.

“Everyday there’s a mini seminar offered. The sessions can be anything from scholarships, community college, applying to four year colleges, resumes, and some of them will repeat,” Egan said.

The sessions take place during lunch periods.

“The center is staffed everyday so that anytime during any of the lunch periods students can pop in and there’s a counselor out there who can assist them with planning for college or careers,” Egan said.

The staff also strives to help students prepare emotionally for college.

“They have to be prepared to face all the different kinds of things when they move out on their own or go away to college. It’s a very different experience than students have had to face throughout high school. We hope that by meeting with students that we can do that and help them build those different soft skills of teamwork, time management, and conflict resolution,” Egan said.

A schedule can be found on the school’s Facebook page, Twitter, and the announcements.
