History was made Saturday, May 24, as the West Chicago boys’ volleyball team defeated Glenbard North in straight sets at St. Charles East High School, advancing to the regional championship for the first time in many years.
The Wildcats quickly found their rhythm, opening with a 25-16 win in the first set and closing the match 25-15. The team’s energy, cohesion, and aggressive play helped them take control early and maintain momentum.
“We played as a team. We kept our energy up the whole time,” junior Joe Trigueros said.
That team energy—bolstered by strong fan support and postseason focus—was key to the Wildcats’ performance. The bench stayed vocal throughout the match, and every point won was met with celebration and intensity.

“We just had a good mindset going into it,” junior Vince Spadoni said. “We were confident in each other and didn’t let up.”
From precise sets to powerful kills, the Wildcats executed on both offense and defense. Multiple players contributed at the net, and communication on the court remained steady from the first point to the last.
“We’ve improved a lot with our coverage and positioning,” senior Phillip Cabrera said. “Everyone did their job.”
The win extends West Chicago’s postseason and puts them one step closer to a sectional berth. They’ll face No. 4 seed St. Charles East tonight—Tuesday, May 27—at 6:30 p.m. in the regional final, again at St. Charles East High School.
“We want to keep this going,” Spadoni said. “We know we can.”
Correction: A previous version of this article stated that the boys’ volleyball team was advancing to the regional championship for the first time in program history. In fact, West Chicago last won a regional title in the 2016–17 season. We regret the error.
