Dr. Limaris Pueyo was officially named the next principal of West Chicago Community High School during a special school board meeting held May 6, 2025, in the school’s Community Room.
The meeting also included the swearing-in of newly elected candidates, the selection of board officers, and discussions on district finances. It was designated a “special” board meeting to mark the public introduction of Dr. Pueyo, who will begin her role on July 1, 2025, for the 2025–26 school year. The announcement came just weeks after former principal Dr. Will Dwyer announced his resignation on March 19, in a press release issued by District 94 Communications Director Brittney Walker.
Dr. Pueyo brings nearly two decades of experience in public education, with a strong background in instructional leadership, equity advocacy, and support for multilingual learners. She currently serves as Director of Multilingual Learners & Equity for Community Unit School District 200 in Wheaton Warrenville, and previously held leadership roles in Glenbard Township High School District 87.
A first-generation college graduate and bilingual educator fluent in Spanish, Pueyo resides in West Chicago and expressed enthusiasm about connecting with students and families in a community she already considers home.
“I am super excited,” Pueyo said in response to being named WEGO’s next principal.
Pueyo’s background mirrors the lived experiences of many WEGO students, and she shared her passion for working with youth and families.
“Being able to support students in helping them reach their goals, being able to connect with families, I just have a passion for working with families and students,” Pueyo said.
Superintendent Dr. Kurt Johansen expressed confidence in Pueyo’s leadership, stating, “Her credentials and experiences as an educational leader align with the needs of our district, and I believe she will have a positive impact on the entire WeGo community.”
Pueyo looks forward to continuing WEGO’s traditions and embracing the next chapter.
“I believe in the potential of every student,” Pueyo said.
