The Wildcats added another win to their record Thursday night, defeating Willowbrook High School 25-15, 25-15 in straight sets on the road. The victory extended the program’s dominance over the Warriors, whom they also swept last spring.
Senior Vince Spadoni led the attack with 10 kills, 4 aces, and a block. Setter Thomas Cabrera tallied 11 assists and an ace, while sophomore Phillip Cabrera added 10 assists and 2 digs. Senior Robert Witek chipped in 3 kills, 2 aces, and 2 digs in the win, and senior Joe Trigueros added 4 kills and an ace.
Witek highlighted one key turning point in the first set, when the team was losing momentum.

“We were in a little bit of a rut, but then we had a really good pass from our libero, Omar [Lutfiyev], and the ball was given right to our setter Phillip [Cabrera],” Witek said. “Phillip set Vincent [Spadoni], and Vincent put the ball straight down. It was just an awesome, amazing sight to see.”
Witek praised Spadoni’s presence at the net, and credited the team’s communication and cohesion for the decisive win.
“We kind of destroyed them in their own house,” Witek said. “We let them know who’s boss.”
With the win, West Chicago improved to 14-7 on the season. Spadoni leads the team with 167 kills and a .448 hitting percentage, while Witek has contributed 42 kills and 14 total blocks across 22 sets played. The Wildcats currently rank No. 69 in Illinois, according to MaxPreps.
The Wildcats will look to carry their energy into the final stretch of the season as they continue conference play and prepare for the postseason.
