Teachers pick up extra shift to pay for new lights

Students will have the chance to see their teachers singing and serving at McDonald’s for McTeacher Night on May 12.
McTeacher Night is an event hosted by Club Green and McDonalds’s.
“Teachers will be taking orders, making shakes, making fries, cleaning, singing by tips, we basically do everything,” adviser Brianne Ferreiro said.
McDonald’s created the event so that clubs or schools could raise money.
“We’re going to raise money for a new LED lighting in the display cases. We’re hoping to make maybe $300 this year,” adviser Suzanne Burchacki said.
This is the second year Club Green and the teachers have taken part in this event.
“We got solicited by McDonald’s (last year) and they sent it (request) to the school and we were the first club to snatch it up,” Ferreiro said.
Working at McDonald’s is difficult for most of the teachers taking part.
“It’s actually harder than you think because it is very exhausting. There are so many people that come and it’s so fast paced that you are constantly moving. Just how much you have to know, what you need to know to work the cash register. There are a lot of buttons. You do need to know a lot just to work the cash register,” Burchacki said.
Students enjoy picking on the teachers while they work.
“Last year, a student, because we sing for tips, came up with a penny about every minute for about 30 minutes straight. We had no voices by the next day from singing and yelling,” Ferreiro said.
Club Green encourages students go to the event.
“It’s a good way to see their teachers in a role where we are serving them versus teaching them. It’s a lot of fun. You get to hang out with people and you make the teachers do things they normally don’t. It helps raise money to make the school a better place for them,” Ferreiro said.
Teachers Anna Fulmer, Brianne Ferreiro, Suzanne Burchacki, Sarah Arcan, Laura Pollard, Debra Crews, Regina Morrone, Sean Gimpert, Tyler Belding, Maura Bridges, Patricia Clifford, Candace Fikis, and Drew Plumb will participate in McTeacher Night.
