For some, looking at a pair of Maison Margiela Tabi shoes for the first time is like trying pineapple on pizza for the first time: strange at first but then you just fall in love with it.
Sure, the split toe shoe is an odd look for a shoe but believe it or not, it actually comes with a few health benefits as well. Who knew that style and health could go together? A few things it helps with is improved posture, improved balance and stability, and better blood circulation. Those are just a few things, but the list keeps going.

The Maison Margiela Tabi debuted in 1988. Martin Margiela was inspired by this creation by the Japanese Jika-tabi, a traditional split-toe shoe with a flexible rubber sole.
“They’re interesting. I’ve never seen anything like that,” junior Kevin Perez said.
Cities like London, Paris and New York are some of the boldest cities to wear these shoes. To some, these shoes are a fashion statement because of how unique they are also because of the brand, Maison Margiela. You can also see these shoes on celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Bad Bunny, Ariana Grande and Zendaya.
“Yes! I would for sure get a pair of those,” senior Alexander Montenegro said.
However, some believe the whole Maison Margiela Tabi trend will eventually become “uncool” just like any other trend. Fashion trends, particularly those related to footwear, tend to die out quickly due to the widespread influence of social media. Social media also moves too fast nowadays with new trends coming out daily which makes it hard for there to be a real long-lasting trend. Also middle brand companies try to replicate shoes just at a cheaper price, like Dr. Martens, now considered an “uncool” shoe because of all the replica versions that mirror the original.
So, those who want to hop on the split-toe bandwagon better do so quickly, before this footwear loses its “sole” and falls back into oblivion.
