Easter egg hunt raises funds for state competitions
March 23, 2016
Easter arrived early for children who participated in an Easter egg hunt hosted by family and consumer science students.
The funds raised by the egg hunt on March 19 will be used to pay the registration fees for the state competitions for SkillsUSA and Family, Consumer and Career Leaders of America.
“We were originally going to do a parent’s day out which is a babysitting gig. It first got approved, but then it got denied due to liability issues across the school. So, we thought of doing an egg hunt and only had a week to promote the egg hunt,” adviser Brittney Bauer said.
Roughly 40 families showed up for the egg hunt.
Senior DiMone Lattimore thought of the idea of hosting an egg hunt.
“We just brainstormed and came up with a bunch of ideas. It was close to Easter and I thought we should do an egg hunt. It took a lot of planning in just three days,” Lattimore said.
Besides the egg hunt, other activities accompanied the fundraiser. Children participated in sack racing, face painting, coloring easter eggs, duck games, and a cake-walk.
“I was in the concession stands selling treats. It was really fun and made for a good time. We helped them to get around and made sure where everything else,” senior Jenifer Alanis said.
Another event students participated in was taking pictures with the bunny. Junior Theresa Carriveau took the pictures while senior Laura Mendoza served as the Easter bunny.
