Films give students a taste in new culture

Asian culture was introduced to Anime Club members during a movie in the auditorium.
The movie shown on Feb. 12 was “Howl’s Moving Castle,” directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
“Everything went really well. We had about 40 people show up for it. Everybody seemed to have a good time. The students had the time to relax and have fun,” adviser Sandra Wilson said.
Students enjoyed watching the film.
“It has always been one of my childhood dreams to see this movie on the big-screen. The movie is one of the most artistic movies that has been created because it takes place in this extremely fantasy world and the landscapes is beautiful,” junior Erik Carlson said.
Anime Club is thinking about doing another movie night in the future.
“We are thinking of trying out another movie night and we are looking to get a more current movie and something that is more appealing to teenagers. There is one movie called ‘Attack On Titan’ and we have to get permission to see that,” Wilson said.
Besides watching films, Anime Club is preparing for a trip to Chinatown to expose club members about Asian culture, according to Wilson.
“Basically, what happened is that some of the anime kids wanted to be able to watch these films in the big screen with more of a movie theater kind of experience. So, that was our push for really doing this and it was really nice to go from a smaller screen to a bigger screen,” Wilson said.
According to Wilson, Anime Club is a social club that comes together to share anime and discuss about it.
