After taking fifth place at regionals at Glenbard West, speech team is headed to sectionals on Saturday.

Placing fifth place at regionals was not an easy accomplishment for the team.

“We never know what to expect going into a regional because it is so difficult, so being able to walk out of there with at least five entries is awesome,” coach Paul Lichy said.

Junior Maggie Clancy came in fourth place in dramatic duo, senior Jeana Brown placed fourth as well in the oratorical declamation, junior Maxwell Smith came in first place in the extemporaneous speaking, and senior RJ Bradley placed third in the prose reading and fourth place in dramatic interpretation piece.

Clancy, Brown, Smith, and Bradley all qualified for sectionals.

“I’m proud of myself and I’m proud of my team. I know that a regional is not easy and so I know that everyone who made it deserves it. I’m just hoping to continue that at sectionals,” Brown said.

Sectionals takes place at Fremd High School.
