West Chicago Community High School is hosting a summer reading program, starting May 22, for all students who decide to participate.

The summer reading program will go based on which students got the most minutes reading that will give students a chance to win a prize. In order to enter the program, interested students need to sign-up through Google Forms.
“Students can still out the form to register for summer read. If we’re still in school, they get a few freebies they can pick up after they register,” Library Media Specialist Amy Grabowski said.
When students come back in the fall, those who log reading will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win one of several prizes. Last year’s prizes were well-received.
“The prize I won was a ‘comfy basket’ with a hoodie/blanket, a Dunkin’ gift card, and a Squishmallow,” senior Jaime Sticha said.
The LRC hosted a similar program last year. Many WEGO students are already tasked with completing a summer reading assignment, and others just enjoy a good book, and so the program helps encourage reading by giving those involved added motivation, and the chance to be rewarded for their reading efforts.
“I want to read, not quite for the prizes, but that’s more like a bonus because I’m going to be reading over summer anyways, so why not try to get something out of it?” junior William Wenberg said.
