Wildcat Chronicle reporters Jose Sanchez and Philip Calabrese share their takes on the latest Marvel movie, in theaters now.

Venom: Let There be Carnage an incredible film

Venom: Let There be Carnage, the incredible PG-13 film with leading actor, Tom Hardy, was released in theatres on Friday, October 1.

The action sci-fi movie was directed by Andy Serkis. The movie was released on October 1, 2021. This new film introduces Carnage, the offspring of Venom. Actor Tom Hardy plays Eddie Brock/Venom, actor Woody Harrelson plays Cletus Kasady/Carnage, and actress Naomie Harris plays Shriek.

There are plenty of action and thrilling moments in this movie that keep viewers on their toes for the next scene. It is the first time Marvel’s insane character, Carnage has been brought onto the big screen, and he did not disappoint. Venom: Let There be Carnage was a great film, highly recommended to audiences of ages thirteen and older.

The movie does a good job in showing the difference between Venom and Carnage. In the movie, Carnage is shown as a cold blooded killer/predator whose main goals are to kill Venom and cause carnage. Venom however, is shown as a tamed beast, who wants to run wild and be free. So, the directors did an amazing job setting up the differences between the two symbiotes.

The film, while starts off slow, shows the bond and rough patches between Eddie Brock and Venom, was filled with plenty of intense action moments. The film took its time illustrating the way Eddie and Venom think differently, and how far they have come from the first movie. Also, every scene in which Carnage appeared, viewers knew there was going to be something intense that would happen because his personality was so unpredictable.

The actor for Cletus Kasady, Harrelson, did a fantastic job portraying the psychotic serial killer. The actress for Shriek, Harris, also impressed. Both did a great job showing the characters’ relationship, and demonstrating how – after Cletus attained the Carnage symbiote – their relationship changed.

The movie was well-written, featured great acting, and had an incredible amount of action. The film show the differences between Venom and Carnage wonderfully – so much so that viewers who were unaware of their characters understood them better. Venom: Let There be Carnage also included a large amount of action to keep viewers hyped during the film. Also, all of the actors did a fantastic job in showing how their characters both differ and connect.

Make sure to stick around for the end credit, it will not disappoint!

Venom: Let There be Carnage unleashed havoc on the box office opening weekend

The viciously awesome Venom: Let There be Carnage has been slaying the box office in theaters all around the world since October 1.

After the release was delayed two times, the new Venom movie finally opened last weekend. This entry in the franchise aimed to make 80 million its first weekend, and surpassed that goal quickly. The movie took in 90.1 million dollars opening weekend and will be earning even more worldwide for the weeks to come. Venom: Let There be Carnage is an odd couple: action and suspense thriller aimed to make viewers laugh and have them on the edge of their seats. This movie runs for a short hour and a half and includes one end credit scene that will have viewers going crazy.

Venom: Let There be Carnage is a love it or hate it movie. It is a hilarious film that shows the dynamic between Eddie Brock and Venom. But, while charming and fun, the film is lackluster in aspects of the story.

The relationship between Eddie and Venom is the core of the story. Their banter and mockery with one another is very entertaining. The audience sees how their relationship works, and why they want certain things. Venom is an alien symbiote who wants to eat people’s (specifically villains’) heads off, and Eddie a regular human who thinks that killing is wrong. The ups and downs of their relationship are evident and it gives the characters realistic feelings, while still making the audience laugh. Their dynamic totally worked and made the movie enjoyable.

The big issue has to do with the movie’s storyline. Venom: Let There be Carnage has a 90-minute runtime. Yes, a Marvel blockbuster was only 90-minutes long. Due to its short runtime, some of the story seems choppy, or as if multiple scenes were removed from the movie. The flow of the movie is so fast, it takes a second to process some aspects of the plot, but then one realizes some plotlines seem unfinished or incomplete. The film has these very interesting villains, such as Carnage and Shriek, and yet it seems like viewers don’t understand them enough to make them good villains. Especially Shriek: she is just the antagonist’s girlfriend and that is literally all there is to the character. The fact that she has powers that make the protagonist and antagonist weaker should have provided the story with an extra layer (and extra problem) to push through, but Shriek’s character is just pushed off to the side. Carnage, the big baddie of the movie, is performed wonderfully through Woody Harrelson’s excellent interpretation of the character.  However, some of his motivations, such as why he wants Eddie to report on him, are never explained.

Venom: Let There be Carnage is the perfect movie to just sit and enjoy. It has everything a getaway movie needs, action, comedy and bromance. The sequel to Venom is definitely an improvement. Director Andy Serkis listened to what everyone liked about the first film and kicked it up to ten. This is a great movie to get away from life and have a laugh. It will not be for everyone, but the passion, excitement, and overall fun of the movie make it a one to remember. Also, the end credit scene is a memorable one. All Marvel fans should see Venom: Let There be Carnage just because of the credit scene. The film is shocking. and will have audiences excited for the future of Venom.

Venom: Let There be Carnage is highly recommended to all  Marvel fans, blockbuster fans, comedy fans, or anyone who is looking for a little bit of an escape, but again, may not be for everyone.

Although, the new Venom is nothing to lose one’s head over, some audience members will definitely be giving this one another watch.
