The seniors secured the annual powderpuff game, beating the juniors 56-35 at Memorial Field at West Chicago Community High School.

Although the juniors started off with a strong lead of about two touchdowns, the senior made a major comeback and ended up winning 56-35. Juniors Molly Merkel, and Jessie Myers were both leading scorers for the junior team, and were successful in gaining ground for their team.

“I think our team did really well honestly, my favorite part part was our celebration after our touchdown, it was just a lot of fun. I will absolutely be playing next year, and I recommend that everyone else does it,” Myers said.

Junior Coach Omar Lutfiyev expressed his gratitude to the team for a well fought battle, and a job well done.

“I’m very proud of our defense and offense. MVP of the game, Molly Merkel with two or three touchdowns, great gane for her. Next year we are going to take it all home,” Omar Lutfiyev, junior coach, said.

In second quarter, senior Abby Wing, also this year’s Homecoming queen, tore down the field, gaining 30 yards for the seniors.

While in the third quarter, seniors Ava Pietanza and Elina Velasco led their side of the field to victory, with an impressive 25-yard catch, which ended in a touchdown.

Junior Fernessa Reyes, expressed disappointment, and was unhappy with the inconsistent calls, but thinks it offers a good high school expirience.

“It was unfair because they had a lot of body blockers, so we couldn’t really do anything,” Reyes said. “You get to communicate with friends and meet new people, and it’s really fun.”

Ultimately, the seniors came through and in the second half, dominated the junior class, ending with a 2-touchdown lead.

On the whole, most participants agreed that powderpuff was essential to the Homecoming experience. The juniors said that they hoped to play again next year, and the seniors expressed nostalgia for their final powderpuff.

“It’s the last year, so might as well do it, just for the memories, you know?” Pietanza said.
